Palliative care is patient centered rather than disease focused, death accepting but also life enhancing, a partnership between the patient and family, concerned with managing rather than curing.

The team is based at Longsight Health Centre, 526/528 Stockport Road, Manchester, M13 0RR
Hours:
Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm (the team provides a 24hr on call service for end of life patients).Short breaks are provided across seven days according to need.

Staff:
The Children’s Palliative Care Team, also known as The Star Team, comprises of nurses, short break facilitators, play specialist, family support worker and a community paediatrician with a specialist interest in Children’s palliative care.
Referrals:
Referrals are accepted by email, telephone (monday-friday), face to face and post. Please telephone the team when making urgent referrals.
Referrals are accepted from:
- GPs
- Colleagues, fellow professionals, voluntary, statutory and non-statutory organisations
- Individuals and families (self-referral)
- Hospital Paediatricians
- Community Paediatricians
