My ambition was always to work at the University Dental Hospital of Manchester, and I started working here in 1995 first as a trainee Dental Nurse.<\/p>\n<p>I qualified in 1997 and was successful enough to obtain a position in the Orthodontic Department as a qualified Dental Nurse. Throughout my career, I acquired various post qualifications and eventually held the position of Senior Dental Nurse in the Department for over 7 years. I have experience as an assessor for Student Dental Nurses, sparking my interest in teaching and training.<\/p>\n<p>During my time as a Dental Nurse, I also held the position as the infection control link practitioner. I was responsible for all hand hygiene training for the whole of the Dental division and regularly attended cross infection control meetings. In 2012 I qualified as an Orthodontic Therapist training here at the Manchester School of Dental Care Professionals.<\/p>\n<p>I treat a wide variety of patients presenting with complex malocclusions. I have been actively involved with clinical audit and present my findings at regional audits and ACE Day sessions. I possess expertise in PAR scoring. I have spoken at conferences and study days on a variety of different topics. I am dedicated to training individuals in Orthodontics, sharing my expertise. I now work with the Orthodontists to treat patients who present with a variety of complex malocclusions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Since qualifying as an orthodontic therapist, I am actively involved with the delivery of the theoretical and practical teaching using typodonts of the trainee orthodontic therapists on the School for Dental Care Professionals, University Dental Hospital of Manchester\u2019s Orthodontic Therapy course.\u00a0 I am also involved in the teaching on the NEBDN post-qualification course for Orthodontic Nurses. Over the course of my career, I have successfully led clinical dental nurse teams, overseen emergency dental triage, and conducted Oral Health clinics. With two decades of experience in dental practice management, I have developed entire dental teams and managed all aspects of the dental business.<\/p>\n<p>Following many years of clinical practice, I accrued diverse experience in health and social care workforce projects. I have supported dental nursing, health &amp; social care, and non-clinical learners as part of the Skills for Health Academy team. My role as Placement Development Manager involved creating learning opportunities for Student Nurses and Allied Health Professionals within GP practices and Social Care settings. Additionally, I led the initiative for widening participation, careers, and engagement as the Healthcare Lead for the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Careers Hub. In a short time, I had completed post qualifications in sedation and oral health. I had always enjoyed learning and continued to enhance my knowledge in dentistry and working in a teaching environment was also beneficial. I progressed and worked as a Senior Dental Nurse in several areas within the hospital, continuing to learn and manage staff whilst teaching on the department. My goal is to assist, empower, and enhance the experience of trainee dental nurses in becoming competent and confident safe practitioners, as well as to improve the knowledge and skills of those already qualified in the field.<\/p>\n<p>With substantial experience in dental nursing education and specialisations, I proficiently deliver and support dental nurses in both primary qualifications and post-registration training.
