{"id":287,"date":"2018-04-05T09:39:40","date_gmt":"2018-04-05T09:39:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mft.nhs.uk\/dental\/?page_id=287"},"modified":"2020-12-14T16:30:33","modified_gmt":"2020-12-14T16:30:33","slug":"implant","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/mft.nhs.uk\/dental\/about\/referral-information-for-dental-practitioners\/implant\/","title":{"rendered":"Implant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Dental Hospital currently provides dental implant treatment funded by our supporting Primary Care Trusts.<\/p>\n<p>Implant treatment must be deemed as the most appropriate form of treatment and all other reasonable conventional treatments have been tried, or are not feasible or appropriate.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-336\" src=\"https:\/\/mft.nhs.uk\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/04\/implant-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mft.nhs.uk\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/04\/implant-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mft.nhs.uk\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/04\/implant-60x40.jpg 60w, https:\/\/mft.nhs.uk\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/04\/implant.jpg 448w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We can only apply for implant funding if the patient meets one or more of the following criteria set down by the Primary Care Trusts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>As part of reconstructive treatment following surgery to the mouth and surrounding tissues for the treatment of malignant disease, where the bone loss is such that only dental implants can be used.<\/li>\n<li>As part of reconstructive treatment following severe facial trauma.<\/li>\n<li>To replace multiple congenitally absent teeth.<\/li>\n<li>Where there are severe eating or speaking disorders, or psychiatric problems, arising from the current or alternative replacements for missing teeth (referrals on psychiatric grounds must be supported by medical assessment).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>To refer a patient <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please clearly state which of the criteria the patient meets. Referrals are usually made to:<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Restorative Dentistry Department<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>University Dental Hospital of Manchester<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Higher Cambridge Street<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Manchester<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>M15 6FH<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mft.nhs.uk\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/04\/Referral-Form.pdf\">Referral Form<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Important information for you and your patient<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On receipt of your referral letter a consultation appointment will be booked. If appropriate a Joint Implant clinic appointment will then be arranged.<\/li>\n<li>If the patient and our dental implant team agree that implants are suitable, it will be necessary for us to apply to their Primary Care Trust, asking for funding for their treatment.<\/li>\n<li>No treatment can be undertaken at the hospital until funding is made available.<\/li>\n<li>When treatment is completed the patient will be referred back for on-going care.<\/li>\n<li>After treatment is completed, we will not provide routine check ups.<\/li>\n<li>Any further treatment will require you to re-refer the patient back to the hospital and any further treatment will be subject to a further application to their Primary Care Trust (PCT). It is important to recognise that criteria for implant funding may change in the future and as a result no guarantees can be made that future treatment will be available on the NHS.<\/li>\n<li>If this not possible for you to carry out maintenance you can re-refer them to the hospital.
