{"id":296,"date":"2018-04-05T09:53:36","date_gmt":"2018-04-05T09:53:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mft.nhs.uk\/dental\/?page_id=296"},"modified":"2018-04-05T14:11:58","modified_gmt":"2018-04-05T14:11:58","slug":"orthodontic","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/mft.nhs.uk\/dental\/about\/referral-information-for-dental-practitioners\/orthodontic\/","title":{"rendered":"Orthodontic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Referred patients should have:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Significant malocclusions (IOTN 5, 4 or 3 with high aesthetic need)<\/li>\n<li>Genuine interest in undertaking orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances<\/li>\n<li>Excellent standard of oral hygiene and be dentally fit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Radiographs where available should be included.<\/p>\n<p>Referral of patients over the age of 18 years is only accepted if the orthodontics is a part of a multidisciplinary approach to treatment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Treatment policy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Where possible, advice is provided for further management by the referring dentist.<\/p>\n<p>Cases with significant treatment need (IOTN 5, 4, or 3 with high aesthetic need) may be accepted for treatment in the Department.<\/p>\n<p>Patients requiring urgent treatment are started as soon as possible, while patients with routine malocclusions are added to the treatment waiting list.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Referred patients should have: Significant malocclusions (IOTN 5, 4 or 3 with high aesthetic need) Genuine interest in undertaking orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances Excellent standard of oral hygiene and be dentally fit Radiographs where available should be included.
