The Nuclear Medicine Centre can be found inside St Mary’s Hospital, on the central Manchester University Hospital site. This is south of Manchester city centre, off Oxford Road (B5117) and Upper Brook Street (A34).

Arriving by car

Car parking is available in two multi-storey car parks, these are located off Hathersage Road and Grafton Street. If using a sat-nav, please use the postcodes given here and when on the correct road follow the road signs. M13 0HY for Hathersage Road car park and M13 9WU for Grafton Street car park. You pay for parking when you return to the car park, before you return to your vehicle. The machines in the Hathersage Road car park only accept cash. A very limited amount of parking is available for 30 minutes in front of the Hospitals, off the Hospital Boulevard, in order to drop off and collect patients.

Parking for blue badge holders is available in the multi-storey car parks and a limited number of spaces are available in front of the Hospitals, off the Hospital Boulevard.

The hospital is located close to the city centre on a busy road and car parking is in high demand, so please allow time to travel here and find a space.

Arriving by public transport

The nearest train stations are Manchester Oxford Road (1 mile) and Manchester Piccadilly (1.5 miles).  The 147 bus starts from Manchester Piccadilly station and comes to the hospital. The bus starts on Fairfield Street, under the bridge. The majority of the buses that stop outside the hospital on Oxford Road can be used to get from Manchester Oxford Road station.

Ambulance Transport

If you are eligible for Ambulance Transport to bring you to your appointment then you need to contact your GP who will give you a telephone number to ring.

How to find the Nuclear Medicine Centre

The Nuclear Medicine Centre is located on the ground floor of Saint Mary’s Hospital on the central Manchester University Hospitals site. A map of the hospitals can be found here. The new St Mary’s Hospital is coloured dark blue on this map, and has a large sign and tall blue pillars outside of the main entrance. The easiest way to find the department is by entering through the doors to Saint Mary’s Hospital from the Boulevard. The department is signposted from the Main Corridor with grey signs.

There are signs giving directions outside of the car parks and around the hospital site, however we suggest you bring your appointment letter and all the information that came with it to help you find us. You can find a copy of the map that is sent with our appointment letters here.

If you require a wheelchair these are available to borrow, with a £1 deposit, from the multi-storey car parks or at the entrances of the Children’s Hospital, Eye Hospital or the two MRI entrances.

Please leave plenty of time to travel to your appointment. If you are running late, please call us on 0161 276 4820 to let us know. We will do our best to make time for your scan on the same day, but may have to make another appointment for you if you are very late.

If you are lost in the hospital, please ask any member of staff (with a hospital ID badge around their neck) for directions or the hospital volunteers (in red sweatshirts or T-shirts). They will do their best to help you.
