The Pharmacy Computing and Information Team are responsible for the development and delivery of high quality technology facilities and information services. The Pharmacy Computing and Information Team leads on implementing technical and system innovations, and is the primary point of contact, expertise and advice for issue within the scope of IM&T and associated applications and systems.

Departmental Projects and Developments

There are a number of technically driven project on-going within in the department, these are both managed and supported by the Computing and Information Team.  During these projects the team can be involved in a number of ways such as; management of the project, risk evaluation, contingency planning, business process redesigned, requirements gathering, technical installations, acceptance testing, making recommendations for operational use, training recommendations, operational procedure design, advising on data quality and information governance considerations.

Technical Support and Systems Management

The Computing and Information Team is responsible for the successful resolution of IM&T support calls in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with Trust and National ITIL Services Standards. It is the purpose of the team to ensure that systems are centrally managed, used effectively and meet the needs of all users.  As part of this service the main duties are to support approximately 300 pharmacy based users including 160 computers and 21 printers, both within the department and throughout the Trust at ward level, additionally we administrate 4 servers.

Business Intelligence and Information Provision

We fulfil approximately 200 information requests on monthly bases for the purpose of medicines management,medicines use, performance management, and financial expenditure monitoring.  These reports are not limited to just internal or Trust review, reaching external partners such as the Department of Health and The Commercial Medicines Unit, reports sent to our Finance Contracts department are used as a basis for the recharging of PbR (Payment by Results) excluded drugs to the patients Responsible Commissioners.

Operational Support

The Computing and Information Team is responsible for the Operational Support of the Pharmacy Departments Computer Systems.  We are a single point of contact, resolving incidents and problems using a structure and transparent prioritisation mechanism.  Managing Problems effectively by investigating the root cause of incidents to reduce the risk of reoccurrence or further impacts.  We offer IT service continuity management, through working with and advising operational service managers to develop suitable contingency plans to use in the event of IT failure, offering recommendations for the testing, review and revision of the plans on a regular basis.
