There are 6 full time Consultant Vascular Surgeons in the Manchester Vascular Centre, all of whom offer a full range of elective procedures for open and endovascular aortic aneurysm repair, carotid and stroke surgery, lower limb bypass for occlusive disease and surgery for venous disease, both open and endovenous.

John Vincent Smyth

Began as a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at MRI in 2000, and is the Clinical Lead for the unit. Principal hospitals covered are MRI and Bolton. Special interest in thoracic outlet conditions and hyperhidrosis. Member of Council for the Vascular Society of GB&I, chair of the regional vascular governance group and CMFT representative for the National Aneurysm Screening Programme.

Ferdinand Serracino-Inglott

Appointed as Consultant Vascular Surgeon at MRI in 2005, and as Manchester Metropolitan University Professor in 2014. Audit lead for the department, and Infection Control lead for the Surgical Division. Special interest in complex endovascular aneurysm repair. Predominantly covers MRI and Salford hospitals.

David Murray

Took up Consultant Vascular Surgeon post at MRI in 2011, Teaching and Training lead for the department. Speicalist interest in complex endovascular aneurysm repair. Covers MRI and Trafford hospitals.

Tawqeer Rashid

Has been Consultant Vascular Surgeon at MRI since 2013, following an endovascular fellowship in Australia. Research lead for the department and specialist interest in distal lower limb revascularisation both surgical and radiological, particularly for diabetic patients. Diabetic vascular surgery lead for Trafford and CMFT hospitals.

Naseer Ahmad

Mr Ahmad started as the sixth consultant vascular surgeon in the MRI in 2015. He specialises in diabetic foot surgery, particularly complex hybrid ultra-distal revascularisations and is lead for diabetic surgery in Salford Royal Infirmary. He, along with Mr Rashid and Dr Frank Bowling, forms the specialist lower limb salvage team that has reduced major amputations in CMFT by a third.  His award winning research interest is health inequalities around lower limb amputations. He is currently involved with re-designing vascular services across Greater Manchester.
