Staff Governor (Nursing and Midwifery)
Staff Governor for Nursing and Midwifery
Term of Office: 3 Years – Ending at 2020 Annual/Special Members’ Meeting
I’ve worked at Wythenshawe Hospital since I began my training in 1983. Commencing in Burns in 1987, I’m the only Burns Nurse Consultant in the UK, and Honorary Senior Lecturer at a Manchester-based University. Previously I was the Lead Nurse for the Northern Burn Care Network.
In 2012 I became Nursing Times Nurse of the Year for the development of the Burns Outreach Service, which delivers care to burns patients through nurse-led clinics but also wherever is best for the patient.
I believe that nurses have a unique role and will play a key part in our new organisation. The ability to further develop relationships with our patients, being advocates for them and helping to redesign services around their care is something I feel is extremely important.
My personal attributes include being committed, proactive, conscientious with ‘patient care’ being what drives me. I feel that being a Governor will enable me to actively contribute to ensure all our hospitals continue to provide safe, quality patient care.
