Someone will check that they have all your correct details and tell you which ward to go to.<\/p>\n<p>If you like, you can visit the hospital with your parent\/carer before your admission. This will give you both a chance to ask questions, listen to advice and tell us if you have any specific requirements. To arrange this, please call the Royal Manchester Children&#8217;s Hospital on 0161 701 0695 and ask to speak to the &#8216;Bee Prepared&#8217; Co-ordinator.<\/p>\n<p>You may be frightened of needles or worried about having an operation. If so, please call our <a href=\"https:\/\/mft.nhs.uk\/rmch\/services\/play-services\/\">Therapeutic &amp; Specialised Play Services<\/a> team on 0161 701 5504. They can help you deal with any fears you have, when you come into hospital or if you are attending a clinic. You can also contact them if you have any specific needs because you have a disability or need extra help for any other reason.<\/p>\n<p>If you have any questions about being in hospital or your treatment, please ask one of our staff. We are here to take care of you and make sure you don&#8217;t feel upset or worried. There are a lot of doctors, nurses and other staff on the wards but don&#8217;t worry about forgetting our names. We all wear name badges and we&#8217;re happy to tell you who we are and what we do.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2>What should I bring with me when I am staying in hospital?<\/h2>\n<p>Bring clothes and shoes for daytime plus night clothes, a dressing gown and slippers. Don&#8217;t forget toiletries and anything you need every day, including any medicine you are taking.<\/p>\n<p>You may want to pack things like a tablet or laptop, computer games, headphones, books, magazines and a pen and notepad. Please label your stuff; the hospital is not responsible if anything gets lost or damaged. If you&#8217;re staying for more than a few days you&#8217;ll also need to bring your school work.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2>What happens when I visit outpatients?<\/h2>\n<p>You will need to book in at the automated check-in screens then go through t the waiting area. Please be patient as appointment times can vary. Patients are seen in the order of their appointment time.<\/p>\n<p>A member of staff will call your name. You may have your weight, height and blood pressure checked and you may need to provide a urine or blood sample. If you require a blood test, local anaesthetic cream may be applied. This can take a little while to work.
