Royal Manchester Children\u2019s Hospital has its very own school. Led by Headteacher Janet Doherty, the school was judged to be Good in its most recent OFSTED report.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

About Us<\/h2>\n

RMCH\u2019s School is based on the third floor opposite the Department of Therapeutic and Specialised Play. It comes under the umbrella of Manchester Hospitals Schools and Home Teaching Service which also includes Galaxy House in the Harrington Building, the Leo Kelly Centre on Dickenson Road in Longsight and the Starlight ward in Wythenshawe Hospital. The team includes teachers, teaching assistants and administrators, who work throughout all four sites.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Referrals<\/h2>\n

If you are admitted to RMCH, you can be referred to the hospital school which follows the National Curriculum just like your own school. It educates children and young people aged between three and 19. You are initially referred to the service by your medical team and each morning a member of staff visits each ward to establish if you are well enough to go to school. Teaching staff will then collect you from your ward. If you are not well enough to leave the ward but able to participate in some lessons, you can be taught by your bed.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Location<\/h2>\n

The Hospital School also has classrooms on Ward 83 and Ward 84, as well as the facility on the third floor. This consists of a classroom for primary age children, one for secondary school children, an ICT room and Home Economics room.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Times<\/h2>\n

There is a morning session which runs from 10.45 am until 11.45 am and an afternoon session from between 2.15 pm and 3.15 pm.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

Exams<\/h2>\n

If you are in hospital when you should be sitting exams, school staff can arranged for you to sit them in hospital.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Galaxy House<\/h2>\n

There are three classrooms in Galaxy House where 12 patients who are under the care of the Child Adolescent and Mental Health Service (CAMHS) study.
