Ward 86 is only one part of the haematology and oncology service, the others consist of Ward 84 Outpatients, BMTU and Stem Cell unit.<\/p>\n<p>We are a regional haematology and oncology unit, accepting patients from the Northwest covering areas from Cumbria to Macclesfield. We see around 120 new patients a year. In 2018, we expanded as a unit as The Christie became the first centre in the UK to provide proton beam therapy. Previous to this, patients travelled to America to receive this treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Using a family centred approach, we care for our children from diagnosis to completion of treatment, including chemotherapy, managing side effects and other supportive treatment required throughout the patient journey. We have good continuity of care and get to know our Ward 86 families well.<\/p>\n<p>We consider the needs of our young people with dedicated teenage cancer beds and facilities.
