The workhouse developed into a hospital for the mentally ill known as the Crumpsall Institution.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1869<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Delaunays Hospital was designed by Thomas Worthington as a workhouse and hospital for the Prestwich Board of Guardians. The Prestwich Workhouse and Hospital was absorbed into the Manchester Union Workhouse in 1915.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1876<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Crumpsall Hospital was built as an infirmary for the Manchester Union Workhouse.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1914<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At the start of World War II, Crumpsall Hospital was a receiving station for 500 casualties from Belgium.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1924<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An X-ray department, ear, eye and dental departments and a chiropody room were added to Crumpsall Hospital.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1927<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A new dispensary and a separate block for operating theatres, X-ray, dental and recovery rooms were built at Crumpsall Hospital. The hospital had a bacteriological and pathological laboratory and was a registered training school for nurses both in general medical and surgical work and in midwifery.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1939<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Crumpsall Institution was renamed Park House and became Springfield Hospital on joining the National Health Service in 1948.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1948<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Crumpsall Hospital joined the NHS and by 1951 a unit for premature babies and a new physiotherapy department had opened.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1952<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Manchester University recognised Crumpsall Hospital for its clinical teaching and some of the senior medical staff were appointed honorary lecturers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1977<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Crumpsall Hospital, Delaunays Hospital and Springfield Hospital merged to form North Manchester General Hospital<\/p>\n<p><strong>1992<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Victoria Memorial Jewish Hospital closed and the Jewish Victoria Wing was established at NMGH.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1994<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Women&#8217;s and children&#8217;s services were centralised at NMGH after the Northern Hospital for Women and Children closed.\u00a0 A new women&#8217;s and children&#8217;s block opened in June 2010.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2017<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Northern Care Alliance NHS Group was formed to combine Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust (which operated NMGH) with Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2021<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>North Manchester General Hospital was acquired by Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust on 1st April.\u00a0 The acquisition completed the creation of a Single Hospital Service for the people of Manchester and Trafford.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]1853 Springfield Hospital had its origins in the new Manchester Union Workhouse, designed by Mills and Murgatroyd..
