On 25th<\/sup> September we celebrated a significant step forward in the redevelopment of North Manchester General Hospital by opening our brand new 980 space multi-storey carpark and cycle hub. The carpark and cycle hub are part of the enabling works to support the\u202fNorth Manchester General Hospital redevelopment project<\/a>. North Manchester General Hospital is one of eight Pathfinder hospitals within the government\u2019s New Hospital Programme (NHP). The new health campus will play a central role in the area; with joined-up health and social care facilities, high-quality new homes, access to better education and training, and more inviting open spaces.<\/p>\n

The event follows the official handover on Friday 15th<\/sup>\u00a0September On this day, MFT also welcomed a visit from NHP members Natalie Forrest (NHP SRO), Morag Stuart (Programme Director) and Saurabh Bhandari (Delivery Director).<\/p>\n

MFT Chairman, Kathy Cowell, said:<\/p>\n

\u201cI am so proud of this significant achievement. This is so much more than just a carpark. Not only does it provide a new, modern and safe facility for our staff, patients and visitors, the addition of electric vehicle charging and the cycle hub will encourage travel methods which reduce our carbon impact.\u00a0On a grander scale, the carpark is one step closer to unlocking our vision to create a transformational development which will bring about generational change for the North Manchester community by creating new jobs, promoting healthy lifestyles, developing skills and contributing to a zero-carbon environment for the benefit of the local neighbourhood and beyond.\u00a0 Quite simply, successfully completing this important first stage serves to demonstrate our readiness and ability to deliver a modern, digitally enabled hospital and health campus under the New Hospital Programme.\u201c<\/p>\n

The opening also coincides with the topping out ceremony for Greater Manchester Mental Health\u2019s new development, North View, also based on the hospital\u2019s grounds; demonstrating the progress MFT has made in partnership towards delivering the new vison for North Manchester General Hospital.<\/p>\n
