Dr Claudine Matthews has developed this course to provide tailored diet and nutrition education and guidance to both Transfusion and Non-Transfusion Dependent Thalassaemia patients experiencing a myriad of disease and clinical related nutritional problems. Note: this course is a series of workshops and full benefit to participants will come from attending all 4 sessions. Each workshop's duration is 1.5hrs, with a total of 4 workshops all being held on Wednesday evenings (dates below). Session 1 (21/2/24): Iron, Iron Overloading and malnutrition Severe anaemia Iron chelation and impact on nutrition Malnutrition (including faltering growth) Nutrition support Session 2 (13/3/24): Endocrine problems Hormone Imbalances Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency Pre diabetes/Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes Hypothyroidism Session 3 (17/4/24): Osteoporosis, Bone Health and Immunity Low Ca and bone density Immunity (splenectomised patients) Hypo and hypertension Heart disease Session 4 (1/5/24): Major organs and GIT Gallstones Kidney stones Fatty Liver/Liver failure/Cirrhosis Acid Reflux
