There are a wide range of travel options to consider when travelling to North Manchester General Hospital.

We strongly recommend using active travel or public transport to get to North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH). The hospital currently has limited parking and is often oversubscribed. All our hospitals are served by many bus routes and other community and sustainable transport options.

For information about public transport services please contact Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) on 0161 244 1000. Their lines are open between 7.00 am and 8.00 pm on Monday to Friday, and from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm on weekends and bank holidays, you can also visit their website.

Walk

Cycle

We have a small number of cycle racks to lock your bike up outside North Manchester General Hospital. Please note, all users leave their bikes at their own risk and the Trust is not liable for stolen or damaged bikes.

Train

The nearest railway station is Moston, on the Manchester – Rochdale/Clitheroe line, and is around a 20 minute cycle from NMGH.

Tram

The nearest tram stops are Abraham Moss and Crumpsall, which are around a 15 minute walk from NMGH.

Electric Vehicle Charging

The Trust has two electric vehicle charging sockets at North Manchester General Hospital. If you have paid for your parking, you can use these parking spaces for a maximum period of 4 hours to charge your vehicle.

These two sockets are in Car Park 1 and are part of the Be.EV network. The Be.EV tariffs are currently 46p per kWh for members or 49p per kWh for non-members.

We do not guarantee access to a charging point, and users are also required to pay the relevant parking fees and follow fair usage guidelines. If you want to find nearby charging units, please look at the TfGM electric travel website.

If you have any accessibility enquiries or special requirements such as help with visual impairment, hearing, language, or communication matters, please ask a member of staff for assistance or contact the Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) The PALS team can provide information about NHS services and other sources of help such as Citizen’s Advice Bureau and support you through an anxious time. They also give a voice to patients’ issues, help to identify gaps in services and report to the Trust Board.   • Travel vouchers

Travel vouchers are for people who are not able to use ordinary buses, trains or Metrolink and have serious walking difficulties or are registered blind. They can be used to pay for taxis and for travel on accessible bus services such as Ring and Ride and Community transport.   • Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme (HTCS)

If you’re referred to hospital or other NHS premises for specialist NHS treatment or diagnostic tests by a doctor, dentist or another primary care health professional, you may be able to claim a refund of reasonable travel costs under the Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme (HTCS).
