North Manchester experiences some of the highest levels of deprivation in England, with significant health inequalities and poorer health outcomes. Alongside this, the current hospital is ageing and increasingly difficult to repair and maintain.
As well as creating new hospital buildings fit for modern healthcare, we are transforming the way care is delivered, supported by stronger connections between hospital, community and neighbourhood services. This will help more people receive care closer to home, or in their own homes where appropriate.
The new hospital will also bring wider benefits to the community through jobs, apprenticeships, training and new skills opportunities linked to the construction programme, supporting efforts to reduce health inequalities and improve opportunities for local people. Together, these changes will help transform health and life outcomes across North Manchester while creating an exceptional place to work, learn and innovate.
