Biography

Dr V J Karthikeyan is a consultant interventional cardiologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer with the University of Manchester and Edge Hill University, Liverpool.

He is a high-volume operator who performs complex percutaneous coronary intervention including left main stem, bifurcations, calcified lesions using adjuvant technologies and techniques such as rotational atherectomy, orbital atherectomy, shockwave lithotripsy and uses coronary physiology as well as intra-coronary imaging.

He has a special interest in high blood pressure, lipid disorders and preventative cardiology. He also performs renal denervation in patients with true resistant hypertension.

He is also the Associate Lead for Hypertension at the Greater Manchester & Eastern Cheshire Strategic Clinical Networks (GMESCN) and a member of the Clinical Working Standards Group, British Cardiovascular Intervention Society (BCIS).

An alumnus of Bangalore Medical College, India, he did his general medical training and research in cardiovascular medicine in Birmingham and embarked on a structured training programme in cardiology, including high intensity sub-specialty training in percutaneous coronary intervention in Liverpool.

He is an active researcher, a principal investigator for multiple cardiovascular trials and interventional research trials and registries.

He has published and presented in national and international conferences/webinars in a wide range of topics related to cardiovascular medicine and interventional cardiology.
