  • Excellence Centre Status Extended for MRCM and NAC

Manchester University Foundation NHS Trust (MFT) is delighted to announce that the Mycology Reference Centre Manchester, in partnership with the National Aspergillosis Centre based at Wythenshawe Hospital has had its designation as a European Confederation of Medical Mycology (ECMM) Centre of Excellence in Clinical and Laboratory Mycology and Clinical studies extended for a further four years, from 2021 to 2024.

The extension of this designation, which was initially awarded in 2017, is evidence of the continued commitment and dedication of both centres to high-quality work in diagnosing and treating fungal infections. Continued collaboration with European colleagues will further enhance research capabilities, strengthen resources and contribute to sharing information and development of services.

Both centres continue to contribute to The University of Manchester undergraduate, and post-graduate programmes in Medical Mycology and Infectious Diseases and are integrated into University of Manchester Fungal Infection Group, which carries out fundamental and applied research on various fungal pathogens.
