The gastroenterology department at MFT is made up of twelve consultant physicians working alongside a team including specialist nurses, dietitians and pharmacists to provide inpatient and out-patient services dealing with both acute and long term conditions involving the digestive system.
We work closely with colleagues in radiology and gastrointestinal surgery to provide a high quality comprehensive gastroenterological service to the population of South Manchester and beyond. The department has a national reputation for services such as treatment of irritable bowel syndrome and complex endoscopic procedures such as ERCP (endoscopic retrograde pancreatography).
In addition, a comprehensive range of gastroenterological services is provided by the department, including inpatient and outpatient management of:
- Inflammatory bowel disease (Crohns disease, ulcerative colitis)
- Liver disease
- Clinical nutrition
- Pancreatic and biliary disease
- Functional gastrointestinal disorders (eg. irritable bowel syndrome)
We also provide a comprehensive endoscopy service including:
- Diagnostic endoscopy (including endoscopic ultrasound, balloon enteroscopy, capsule endoscopy)
- Therapeutic endoscopy (including endoscopic mucosal resection and ERCP).
