  • New Clinical Director appointed at the National Aspergillosis Centre (NAC), Wythenshawe Hospital

We are pleased to announce Dr Caroline Baxter’s permanent appointment as Clinical Director of the National Aspergillosis Centre based at Wythenshawe Hospital.

Dr Baxter, a respiratory consultant and clinical head of respiratory services at Wythenshawe, has worked at the Trust since 2007. She completed specialist training in respiratory medicine in West Yorkshire and has a sub-speciality interest in complex lung infection and aspergillosis.

Dr Baxter has held the position of Interim Clinical Director since the retirement of Professor David Denning in September 2020. She will be responsible for the strategic leadership and management of the centre, which specialises in long term care for patients with Chronic Pulmonary Aspergillosis.

Speaking on her appointment, Dr Baxter said: “I am delighted to be taking on this position and am extremely grateful to Professor David Denning who has been an inspirational leader throughout my career.  I am looking forward to leading our centre to deliver excellence in patient care, innovation and research ”

Dr Baxter’s wealth of clinical knowledge and experience will be pivotal as the centre, which is commissioned by the Department of Health as a highly specialised service, further develops its services and continues to provide patients from across the country with specialist care and treatment.
