Biography
Dr Uwubamwen has been a Consultant Anaesthetist at Trafford General Hospital since 2002 and has a special interest in high-risk obstetric anaesthesia and pain management. He obtained his primary medical degree in Nigeria and undertook his postgraduate training in the UK. He has specialised in both Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Anaesthesia/Critical Care, having trained in both specialties starting from Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, then Hallamshire Hospital (Sheffield), Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Hope Hospital in Salford, St James Hospital in Leeds and University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.
Prior to joining Trafford General Hospital, he was a Consultant Anaesthetist (Locum) with special interest in Obstetric Anaesthesia at Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Manchester for 18 months.
At Trafford, his weekly clinical duties include: sessions in intensive care; acute pain; anaesthesia for orthopaedics, ear nose & throat, colorectal surgery and general surgery; and the teaching and supervision of trainees. On joining Trafford, Dr Uwubamwen established the Obstetric Anaesthesia & Critical Care Clinic for High Risk Obstetric Patients. Data from the clinic have been presented in national and international conferences including the 2008 American Society of Anaesthesiologist International Conference in Florida. More recently he has also established an Acute Pain Forum and the acute pain newsletter to support the acute pain service for which he is the clinical lead. He is the Deanery career lead for the Foundation Training Programme and a member of Trafford’s Medical Education Committee, an undergraduate examiner/supervisor and postgraduate clinical supervisor. He also chairs the WHO surgical checklist implementation committee in Trafford.
