Biography
Dr Omar Asghar graduated in medicine in 1999, completed a PhD in 2015 and an MSc in genomic medicine in 2019 all at the University of Manchester. He formally trained in cardiology between 2012-20, subspecialising in cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMR), inherited cardiac conditions (ICC), obstetric cardiology and implantable cardiac devices. He did a post CCT advanced fellowship in obstetric cardiology and inherited cardiac conditions.
Dr Asghar has also worked as a consultant to Google for wearable tech development (FitBit), 3M Healthcare and sat on expert panels for GE. He has held various positions of responsibility including OSCE examiner for the University of Manchester Medical School and PLAB examiner and writer for the General Medical Council. He has also been on the exam writing panel for overseas cardiology licensing examinations.
Dr Asghar has also acted as a reviewer for peer reviewed medical journals, written book chapters and e-learning modules for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) and is a current editorial panel member of Congenital Heart International Professionals (CHiP) Network (www.thechipnetwork.org) Journal Watch (obstetric cardiology).
