Biography

Dr Riina Rautemaa-Richardson is an Honorary Consultant Mycologist at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and a Senior Clinical Lecturer in Infectious Diseases and Medical Education at The University of Manchester. She is Clinical Head of Service for the NHS Mycology Reference Centre Manchester and Clinical Group Director for Research and Innovation within Clinical & Scientific Services.

Her clinical and research work focuses on the diagnosis and management of fungal infections, fungal pathogenesis, antifungal resistance and antimicrobial stewardship. She has published more than 180 peer-reviewed works and contributes extensively to the education of medical students and future clinicians.

Dr Rautemaa-Richardson is President of the British Society for Medical Mycology, Chair of the UK Standards for Microbiology Investigations Bacteriology Working Group and the UK Senior Country Ambassador for the International Society for Human and Animal Mycology. She is also an Editor of the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy.
