Biography

Dr Riina Rautemaa-Richardson is an Honorary Consultant Medical Mycologist at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and a Senior Lecturer at The University of Manchester. She leads the NHS Mycology Reference Centre Manchester and specializes in diagnosing and managing fungal infections.

An internationally recognized expert, she has published over 180 peer-reviewed works. Her research advances understanding of fungal pathogenesis and antifungal stewardship. She also leads infectious diseases education in the MBChB program, shaping future clinicians. In 2025, she was elected President of the British Society for Medical Mycology.
