Biography

I graduated from the University of Sheffield Medical School in 2007. I completed my basic surgical and cardiothoracic specialist surgical training in Yorkshire, obtaining my FRCS (C-Th) in 2021. I took time out of speciality training to complete a PhD in the Genetics of Mesothelioma at the University of Leicester 2014-2017 having been awarded a Royal College of Surgeons of England Research Fellowship. I have worked as a Consultant Thoracic Surgeon at Wythenshawe Hospital since February 2022.

My main area of surgical interest is in minimally invasive surgery using a single port approach, with over 80% of my lung resections being performed minimally invasively. I also utilise this approach for minimally invasive thymic resections, pneumothorax surgery, diagnostic procedures and minimal access decortication for empyema. I have experience in surgical and endobronchial approaches to treat emphysema, electromagnetic navigational bronchoscopy and mesothelioma surgery. I also have an interest, and experience in the management of chest trauma.

I have a keen interest in research and have been involved in many clinical and translational research projects, including multiple multicentre and internationally collaborative clinical trials. I have published over 30 papers in peer reviewed journals, have authored several book chapters and presented at many international meetings.
