Biography
Mr David Riding graduated from the University of Manchester in 2006, and was subsequently awarded Masters degrees in Surgical Science (University of Edinburgh, with Distinction) and Surgical Education (Imperial College, with Merit). In 2019, he successfully defended my PhD thesis at the University of Manchester, which investigated the management of pelvic vein incompetence in women with chronic pelvic pain. In 2021, he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and was subsequently appointed Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust in 2022. Mr Riding has since developed a special interest in deep venous disease. In 2023, he was appointed to the departmental leadership team with responsibility for clinical governance.
In 2018, Mr Riding was elected Chair of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh’s (RCSEd) Trainees’ Committee, and sat on the College Council for two years. He is part of the College’s core team that advocates for safer working culture in surgical teams, and he has represented the profession to NHS Employers, the GMC, the BMA, various medical Royal Colleges, the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, and the UK Parliament’s House of Lords. In 2023, he successfully completed RCSEd’s ‘Future Leaders Programme’, and was recently appointed to the College’s Vascular Surgery Speciality Board.
