Biography

Mr De La Mata has been a consultant ophthalmologist with subspecialty interest in medical retina at MREH since 2019. He is primarily dedicated to the diagnosis & management of medical retinal pathology including age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and retinal vascular occlusive disease. Following completed ophthalmic training in Spain, he undertook fellowships in uveitis and medical retina at both MREH and Moorfields Eye Hospital. He has a particular interest in age related macular degeneration and fast-evolving field of retinal imaging and leads the service responsible for screening and monitoring of choroidal nevus. He delivers retinal laser and intravitreal injection treatments. He is also involved in the general ophthalmology outpatient service and contributes regularly to the eye emergency care. He is committed with postgraduate education, hospital optometry teaching and has an undergraduate clinical tutor role for medical students.
