Biography

Naomi qualified from Nottingham University Medical School in 1988, completed her orthopaedic and paediatric orthopaedic training in Manchester and Toronto and has been a consultant in Children’s Orthopaedic Surgery in Manchester since 2001.

After an early and many subsequent visits to Dr. Ponseti’s unit in Iowa, she developed a busy practice for patients with clubfoot and complex foot deformities. She is proud to be part of the Specialist Foot Service at RMCH with her colleagues Tasos Chytas, Jo Parkinson and Sharon O’Riordan. This team is recognised as a tertiary/quaternary referral centre for complex foot problems in children. She also does outreach to Royal Preston Hospital.

She has been training internationally for many years, mostly with the Global Clubfoot Initiative. Naomi’s other area of work includes co-leadership of the North West Children’s Major Trauma Network, since its inception on 2012. The network have reported on lessons learned from major incidents involving children.

She has also led on the development of rehabilitation services, including the instigation of the ‘School Fit Note’ to support early reintegration of children and young people back into school and activities after injury. Her research includes work for the European and BSCOS consensus statements on clubfoot management and the rehabilitation needs of children and young people after injury.
