Biography
Dr Jayne Holme is a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine and Clinical Director for the Respiratory Medicine Directorate serving Wythenshawe, Trafford, Withington and Altrincham Hospitals. She provides comprehensive care in general respiratory medicine, leading a general respiratory clinic and overseeing the management of general respiratory inpatients at Wythenshawe Hospital. Alongside her broad clinical practice, she has a specialist interest in pleural medicine and is highly experienced in a wide range of pleural procedures, including medical thoracoscopy, insertion of both long-term and temporary chest drains, and pleural aspiration.
Dr Holme qualified in medicine from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 2000 and began specialising in respiratory medicine in 2004. She completed a postgraduate research degree, awarded as an MD by the University of Birmingham in 2010, focusing on clinical studies in alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency and bronchiectasis. She has published several research papers in the fields of pleural disease, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency and bronchiectasis, reflecting her longstanding commitment to advancing evidence-based respiratory care.
In addition to her clinical and academic work, Dr Holme has developed a strong interest in medical leadership. She served as Pleural Service Lead from 2012 to 2018, Resident Doctor Lead from 2013 to 2018, and Deputy Clinical Director from 2018 to 2021. Since 2021, she has held the role of Clinical Director for the Respiratory Medicine Directorate, where she continues to provide strategic leadership while supporting the delivery of high-quality respiratory services across the Directorate.
