Biography
Dr Shawcross graduated from the University of Manchester in 2004, and trained in paediatrics across the Northwest before sub-specialising in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine, training across Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (RMCH) and Alder Hey. She completed an MD at the University of Manchester in 2017, researching novel methods of measuring lung function in infants with Cystic Fibrosis.
She has been working as a consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine at RMCH since 2019. She works across all aspects of respiratory medicine with special interests in cystic fibrosis, primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) and non-CF bronchiectasis, and currently leads the PCD and non-CF bronchiectasis service. Since 2025, Dr Shawcross has been Clinical Lead for the Paediatric Respiratory Department.
Dr Shawcross is an active contributor to research and quality improvement in the field of CF, PCD and non-CF bronchiectasis. She has been both principal investigator, sub-investigator and co-PI on a number of research studies at RMCH, and has published work and presented at international conferences. She currently organises and co-chairs the Royal Society of Medicine cystic fibrosis symposium, and is a member of the UK CFMA executive committee. She contributes to several regional groups dedicated to quality improvement for patients with CF across MFT.
