Respiratory Medicine

As part of this service six respiratory physicians in the respiratory medicine department provide expert treatment in a whole range of respiratory illnesses including Asthma, COPD, Interstitial Lung Disease, Lung Cancer and TB in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

The service hosts the Manchester Tuberculosis (TB) contact tracing service and works with primary care/community services to provide specialist chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and oxygen clinics. More information can be found on our Tuberculosis page.

A Pulmonary Function Department provides assessment of lung function, including oximetry at rest, overnight oximetry for sleep apnoea and flight assessments.

The service is supported by specialist nurses (including asthma, lung cancer, TB), physiotherapy and physiological measurement technicians, and junior medical staff.
