Biography
Saqib Chowdhary MBBS FRCP PhD graduated in medicine from St Thomas’ Hospital, London and trained in cardiology in Birmingham, Coventry and Toronto. He became a consultant cardiologist in 2006 and is currently appointed at the regional cardiothoracic centre in Manchester, Manchester Foundation Trust (Wythenshawe).
He subspecialises in interventional cardiology and TAVI. His interventional interests include TAVI, CTO angioplasty and intra-coronary imaging. With respect to the latter, he founded the national training course “Practical IVUS and OCT” and has run this for the last 16 years.
He won the British Cardiac Societies’ “young investigator of the year” in 2003 and continues to be a keen trialist, most recently participating in the landmark OCTOBER trial of intra-coronary imaging to optimise bifurcation stenting. He has served as a NICE specialty adviser for both coronary artery disease and intra-coronary imaging.
