Before you leave, a doctor or nurse will need to examine you and any medications will be dispensed by the pharmacy. You should arrange for someone to pick you up or accompany you home. If your operation is being performed as a day case, the time you will need to wait after surgery will depend on the type of surgery you have had; your nurse will be able to advise you
We will aim to give you as much notice as possible regarding the arrangements for discharge from our inpatient ward. However, on occasions arrangements have to be made at short notice. Your named nurse will assist you to make any necessary arrangements. On the day of discharge, once the medical staff have confirmed that you are fit to leave hospital, you may be asked to transfer from your bed area to a waiting area. This helps us with the smooth running of the ward as it ensures that beds are available for patients being admitted that day.
You will be provided with all the necessary information for your aftercare when you leave hospital. You will be given a leaflet instructing you on the do’s and don’ts following your operation, information about your eye drops and an appointment date for your follow up. The nurse will discuss these with you.
The hospital will send your GP a full report detailing your progress.
