At MFT, our General Surgery department provides a full range of emergency surgery and planned elective surgery for patients with benign and malignant conditions of the upper and gastrointestinal tract. This includes benign (non-cancerous) and malignant (cancerous) conditions.
Wythenshawe Hospital has excellent Intensive Care Unit and High Dependency Unit facilities which are mandatory to support patients undergoing major surgery. The surgeons work closely with a team of five Gastroenterologists, dedicated Gastrointestinal Radiologists, and Pathologists, to deliver this comprehensive service.
Patients with multiple medical needs also benefit from the wide range of other specialist service based at MFT, including cardiology, respiratory medicine and endocrinology.
Services
Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery – Typically treats Oesophagogastric diseases, both benign (non-cancerous) such as hiatus hernia and reflux disease, and malignant (cancerous) conditions. Our surgeons also perform surgery to treat gall stone diseases.
Lower Gastrointestinal Surgery – Surgery is performed to treat Colorectal Diseases, both benign conditions such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and malignant conditions.
Other Surgery
Our surgeons also performs surgery for conditions such as skin lumps and hernias.
Referrals
Patients can be referred to this service through their GPs or hospital consultants.
