Biography

Dr Allen is an experienced physician who qualified in 1994. He has been a consultant working in the field of severe asthma since 2007. He has worked as a consultant in a district general hospital for 10 years before moving to Wythenshawe in 2017, where he led the service and successfully implemented a significant expansion of the service to meet the needs of the growing number of patients requiring specialist input.

He has extensive experience in the assessment of severe asthma patients for suitability for biological therapies and also in monitoring the response to these therapies. He also has significant experience in assessing airway structures via bronchoscopy. He is actively involved in training and mentoring doctors and specialist nurses.

He is an advocate of using technology to support clinicians to deliver high quality care, he is chair of the Hive respiratory pathway council, responsible for overseeing improvements to the electronic patient record system for respiratory colleagues across the Trust. He is also the lead for quality and safety for the respiratory service across WTWA.
