Biography
Dr Sarah Drake is a Consultant in Severe Asthma and Respiratory Medicine with specialist expertise in the diagnosis and management of severe asthma, complex airways disease, biologic therapies, and multi-factorial breathlessness. She graduated from the University of Manchester with an MBChB in 2008 and completed higher specialist training in Respiratory and General Internal Medicine. Dr Drake is dual accredited in both specialities and continues to support the acute medical take while running a weekly general respiratory clinic alongside her specialist severe asthma practice.
Alongside her clinical work, Dr Drake has a strong academic interest in asthma diagnosis and respiratory disease. She completed a PhD at the University of Manchester investigating the optimal use of clinical investigations to improve the accuracy of asthma diagnosis. Her research has contributed to the understanding of asthma diagnostics and evolving approaches to respiratory care, and she has authored peer-reviewed publications in respiratory medicine.
Dr Drake is committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centred care, with a particular interest in accurate diagnosis and personalised treatment for patients with severe asthma and complex respiratory symptoms.
Outside of medicine, Dr Drake is a keen endurance athlete and regularly competes in Ironman-distance triathlons. In 2025, she represented Great Britain as a member of the GB Age Group Team at the European Middle Distance Triathlon Championships. She also works as an expedition doctor, specialising in high-altitude medicine and supporting medical expeditions in remote environments. Over the years, she has helped numerous clients achieve their expedition goals and has summited Mount Kilimanjaro on five occasions. She enjoys the challenges of endurance sport and expedition medicine and values the discipline, resilience, and wellbeing they bring both professionally and personally.
