We offer a child-centred unit providing outpatient, day case, paediatric observation and assessment unit and inpatient care, including a well-equipped two bedded High Dependency Unit. The unit is staffed by highly skilled and specialist paediatric trained staff.

Our philosophy is to provide family centred care appropriate to the needs of children, young people and their families.

We understand that parents are the key to achieving the best physical and mental health and wellbeing outcomes for their children and so our service includes specialist support and facilities for parents.

Children’s Emergency Department

Within the main Emergency Department at Wythenshawe Hospital, there is a dedicated children’s department. It is led by specialist paediatric-trained staff, including consultants in Emergency Medicine and nurses with specialist paediatric training.

The Paediatric Emergency Department has a separate waiting area equipped with a television, books and toys to allow children to wait in a comfortable environment away from the adult Emergency Department. It has five dedicated treatment bays including a fully equipped resuscitation bay, and it is located next to the X-ray department for convenience. Children who require overnight hospital care will be admitted to the Starlight Children’s Unit.
