  • New Director of Nursing appointed at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Julia Birchall-Searle as Director of Nursing at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (RMCH).  Julia is an experienced children’s nurse who has been supporting RMCH since July this year.

Julia has a clinical background in Paediatric Intensive Care and has worked in workforce development, and change and transformation roles.  Her wealth of experience will be immensely beneficial to the hospital and our hospital board as we progress and continue to develop our children’s services.  She is already well known to her Director of Nursing colleagues across the Trust and they are pleased that she will be joining them in this key role.

Professor Cheryl Lenney, Chief Nurse of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), said:  “I am thrilled to have Julia join our community of nurse leaders.  I know how committed she is to children and young people and will ensure that children and their families are a key priority and central to everything we do as a Trust and as a profession. Nursing at RMCH will grow and thrive under her leadership.”

Dena Marshall, Chief Executive Officer at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, said:  “Julia is the final appointment to our leadership team at RMCH and we look forward to working together to develop and drive our major change programmes across our family of hospitals.  Julia will provide leadership to all our amazing nurses who work in children’s services across MFT.”

Julia said:  “I am so pleased to be joining Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital as Director of Nursing.  I’m committed to improving services for children and young people and am looking forward to working with staff and being able to build on all the good practice that is currently in place in RMCH.”
