Biography
Professor Georgios (George) A. Antoniou is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, and holds an Honorary Clinical Chair at the Manchester Academic Health Science Centre (MAHSC), University of Manchester.
He combines an extensive clinical practice with an active academic career. He undertakes full-time clinical work in both the NHS and private sector, delivering comprehensive vascular services across the full spectrum of the specialty. His clinical expertise includes open and endovascular aortic aneurysm repair, hybrid procedures for peripheral arterial disease, carotid surgery for stroke prevention, diabetic foot surgery, and the management of venous insufficiency.
Professor Antoniou’s academic interests focus on evidence synthesis, clinical practice guideline development, and aortic aneurysm research. He serves on several national and international scientific committees, including the European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS) Guidelines Steering Committee, the ESVS European Research Hub, and multiple clinical practice guideline writing committees. He is the principal investigator for UK NIHR portfolio studies and has authored more than 350 peer-reviewed scientific publications, accruing over 16,000 citations. He also serves as a Statistical Editor for the European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery.
