Biography
MBChB with Honours (Manchester) 1996. FRCP (UK) 2000, FHEA 2012, PhD 2006, PG Diploma (Medical Education), 2013. Current posts, roles and responsibilities: Consultant Nephrologist based at Manchester Royal Infirmary and covering North Manchester Dialysis Unit from June 2007 to present. Training Programme Director for Renal Medicine, North West Deanery from November 2012 to current. Royal College of Physicians Tutor for Medicine, Manchester Royal Infirmary, September 2013 to current Divisional Lead for Education, Specialist Medicine, Manchester Royal Infirmary, October 2013 to current In Patient Clinical Governance Lead for Renal Medicine, January 2013 to current My clinical research interests include quality of life issues for patients on renal replacement therapies and my scientific research interests include the pathogenesis of SLE, in particular the role of Transforming Growth Factor Beta-1 in lupus nephritis. My research work on the genetics and epidemiology of lupus nephritis is internationally recognised with numerous oral and poster presentations and publications. I have also been awarded prizes for best abstracts at national and international meetings. I have developed an increasing interest in Medical Education and am currently (Sept 2013) in my final year of my Masters Dissertation year for Work-based Medical Education. I have various responsibilities within the trust and region for education as outlined above both at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. Previous posts: Specialist Registrar Renal Medicine (Yorkshire Deanery) 2001 to 2007. Wellcome Trust funded PhD Research Fellow at Manchester Royal Infirmary – 2003 to 2006.
