Biography

Dr Steven graduated from Edinburgh University Medical School in 2004. She undertook postgraduate training in Edinburgh before moving to Newcastle for specialty registrar training in diabetes, endocrinology and general medicine. There she was awarded a clinical fellowship to undertake research into the effects of calorie restriction in type 2 diabetes, under the supervision of Professor Roy Taylor at Newcastle University. She was awarded a PhD for a thesis entitled ‘The reversibility of type 2 diabetes’ in 2016 and now has 10 first author publications and has written 2 book chapters. In 2016 she took up her current post as Consultant Diabetologist. In 2020 Dr Steven was selected to be a Diabetes UK Clinical Champion.
