Biography:
Neil is a clinical adult endocrinologist at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, where he also heads the Research & Innovation Division. He is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Manchester where he researches human development and stem cell biology. Publications from the last few years have appeared in Nature Cell Biology, Nature Biotechnology and eLife. He has a parallel interest in fibrosis with recent papers in Nature Communications and EMBO Molecular Medicine. He completed doctoral, intermediate and senior clinical fellowships from UK Government or the Wellcome Trust.
Outside Manchester, Neil directs the Wellcome clinical PhD programme for northern England (Universities of Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield) and was heavily involved in the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) training strategy for the next 15 years. In 2018, he is the President of the Association of Physicians of Great Britain and Ireland.
