Dr Shoneen Abbas

Qualifications:

Special Interests:

Dr Abbas is a trained Advanced Life Support (ALS) Instructor and an Ill Medical Patients’ Acute Care and Treatment (IMPACT) Instructor and regularly instructs on courses.

Biography

Dr Abbas qualified from Manchester Medical School in 2005. She has a strong passion for improving the management of the acutely unwell patient and strengthening the link between the specialities of Acute Medicine and Critical Care. Dr Abbas was appointed as a Consultant in both Acute Medicine and Critical Care at CMFT in August 2014. She is the Acute Medical link to the Acute Oncology Services at CMFT. Dr Abbas is committed to improving Patient Safety and is a medical representative on the Trust Quality Forum. Dr Abbas is a co-author for a MCQ book for Intensive Care examinations and has developed online e-learning packages on St.Emelyn’s website for 5th Year Medical students as part of their “Acutely unwell module”.

Dr John Bright

Biography

Dr John Bright qualified from Southampton University in 1994. He travelled to Manchester in 1996 and completed both junior and middle grade training within the “Manchester Royal Infirmary”. Dr Bright travelled the world with intention of becoming an Acute and Respiratory physician training extensively in Australia and Wythenshawe. Dr Bright is one of the founder members of the “Acute Medical Unit”.

Professional Interests:

Dr Bright has a proven educational background, previously holding the position of Associate Dean of Medical Education. He has a keen interest in the implementation of electronic systems to enhance and improve patient flow and experience. Dr Bright is an experienced respiratory physician with a passion for high quality care, and has a specialist interset in bedside ultrasound (Point of Care Ultrasound) and venothromboembolism. He is also a well renound public speaker at a variety of educational forums and conferences nationally and international.

Dr Osahon Gbinigie

Qualifications:

MBChB, MRCP (UK) (Acute) PG Dip (Med ED)

Biography

Dr Gbinigie graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2005 and came to Manchester after completing his Foundation Training. He began higher specialty training in Acute Medicine in 2009 and became a consultant at CMFT in August 2014.

Professional Interests:

Dr Gbinigie is committed to maintaining the wellbeing of his patients and facilitates staff development. He plays an active role in the education of medical students, doctors in training and allied healthcare professionals. Not only is he an instructor on the IMPACT course (Ill Medical Patients Acute Care and Treatment) which takes place at this Trust, he has also gained a Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Education.”

Dr Robert Henney

Qualifications:

MB BS, MA (Hons Oxon), MRCP (Renal Medicine), MRCP (UK)

Biography

Dr. Henney studied his pre-clinical medicine at Pembroke College, Oxford where he achieved his MA in Physiology. He then trained at the Royal Free Medical School and qualified in 2003. He completed his joint CCT in Nephrology and General Medicine in 2013 and started work as a Consultant in Acute Medicine and Nephrology at CMFT in 2014.

Professional Interests:

Dr. Henney is a Core Member of the Manchester Acute Kidney Injury Strategy (MAKIS) team and as such is committed to help reduce the incidence of in-hospital AKI. He has also been Medical Rota Master, responsible for the junior and senior medical on call rotas since October 2014. As part of his Newly Appointed Consultant Leadership and Development Project, he is working with the Out of Hours (OOH) Group among others to improve the safety and organisation of the medical on call rota for both doctors and patients. He is also a qualified ALS and Impact course instructor and provides weekly structured teaching sessions to 3rdyear medical students from the University of Manchester.

Dr Ade Morafa

Biography

Dr Adeyemi Morafa trained at the University of Ibudan in Nigeria in 1999. He then moved to the UK in 2002 where he focused upion a career in acute medicine.

He became a Consultant Acute Physician in 2011 at Manchester Royal Infirmary.

Professional Interests:

Dr Morafa is committed to the provision of high quality care to his patients and the further development of acute medical services. He is also the Associate Hospital Dean for the Division of Acute Medicine and Rehabilitation Directorate and was in 2014 successfully awarded with the title of ‘Best Clinical Teacher for new Students’. Dr Morafa is the Acute Medical Lead for the new Ambulatory Care Service which was launched in November 2014.

Dr Mohammed Noor

Biography:

Graduated from University of Health Sciences in 2004. After completion of House job, I was enrolled as post graduate trainee in General Medicine. Passed Intermediate module and worked as Cardiology Registrar in Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences. After successfully passing Membership exam, worked as Specialist Registrar in Care of Elderly ward at North Tees NHS Trust and later worked as Specialist Registrar at Colchester General Hospital in Department of Respiratory medicine. Joined Central Manchester University Hospital in April 2010, and worked as Specialist Registrar in Acute Medicine and successfully cleared Specialist Exam in Respiratory medicine. I was appointed as Consultant in Respiratory and Acute Medicine in Jan 2016 and am still working till date.

Dr Jonathan Schofield

BSc, MBBS, MRCP, PGCE, PhD

Biography:

Dr Schofield studied at the Royal Free & University College Medical School in London, returning to the North West in 2007 to complete his Specialty Training in Endocrinology & Diabetes. He benefitted from time out of training for experience overseas with the British Army and for research, studying for a PhD at the University of Manchester. Jonathan maintains his research interests and continues to contribute publications to peer-reviewed journals. He also has a keen interest in medical education and is an Advanced Life Support and Battlefield Advanced Trauma Life Support Instructor. Dr Schofield was appointed Consultant at CMFT in 2016.

Dr Tania Syed

Qualifications:

Biography:

Dr Tania Syed is a Consultant Acute Physician at the Central Manchester Foundation Trust since 2011. She has also obtained MSc in Healthcare Management from Manchester Business School. She is the northwest representative at the New Consultant’s Committee and is also a member of CEIM (Committee for Ethical Issues in Medicine).

Dr Syed holds a number of key roles at her trust. She is Clinical Effectiveness lead, AMU mortality and Divisional coding lead and also STC AIM lead for Acute medical trainees. She also represents CMFT Acute Medicine at the Healthier Together and regional Ambulatory Care groups.

Dr Michael Davies

General Internal Medicine, Metabolic bone disease (osteoporosis,Pagets disease osteomalacia and genetic bone diseases) , mineral metabolism and electrolyte disturbances and disorders of parathyroid glands.

Biography

Trained in Newcastle Cardiff and Manchester On Consultant Staff at Manchester Royal Infirmary since 1977 Considered a leading expert in Bone disease and vitamin D metabolism. Director of the Supra Regional assay for vitamin D and its metabolites offering expert advice nationally on diseases caused by or causing perturbations in vitamin D metabolism. Published extensively in the world literature on clinical issues related to the skeleton,calcium and vitamin D metabolism. Past censor and regional adviser for RCP London. Member of NICE Appraisal committee.
