Our Facilities
Manchester Royal Infirmary Theatre Complex has 18 operating theatres including 24-hour Emergency Theatre provision and provides a service for our major surgical specialties. In addition, we provide a short stay inpatient area which delivers a service for patients having operations typically requiring a short length of stay or day case procedure. We have 2 state of the art Hybrid Theatres and will be welcoming further renovations to our theatre complex over the next few years.
We provide elective & emergency services for the population of Greater Manchester and beyond. Some of the big specialties we provide are:
- General Surgery, including Hepatobilliary and Colorectal surgery
- Renal Transplantation
- Vascular surgery
- Ear Nose and Throat and Maxillo Facial surgery
- Urology
- Cardiac
- Orthopaedic
- Major Trauma Services
Each of our Theatre areas has an adjoining recovery area in which we can care for patients immediately following their surgery. We also work closely with colleagues in our Critical Care department to help facilitate a smooth patient journey for those requiring the High Dependency Unit.
Our emergency theatre team is also supported by our Emergency Anaesthetic Practitioners who support the anaesthesists working with critically ill patients on the wards and attending emergencies across the hospital site.
We also have a team of nurses who form part of the North West Organ Retrieval Service going to hospitals across the North West to assist with kidney and liver transplantation.
Elective Treatment Centre and Short Stay Facilities
Our Elective Treatment Centre is our dedicated area for admission and short stay patients. In addition to this we also have our Surgical Admissions Lounge. Both facilities provide high quality care and ensure our patients are ready for their surgery.
ETC support same day discharges for day case procedure patients.
Decontamination Service Department (DSD)
All of our theatres are supported by our Decontamination Services Department which is based on the Oxford Road Campus. The Decontamination Services Department support the whole Trust Site by ensuring our reusable equipment is sterilized and safe to use.
