What are the signs and symptoms of TIA?
Other symptoms to look out for are:
- Sudden weakness or numbness on one side of your body
- Sudden loss of vision in one eye
A TIA is often referred to as a warning for stroke and it must be taken seriously and treated as a medical emergency
What is a TIA or mini stroke?
A TIA or Transient Ischemic Attack is also known as a mini stroke.
With a TIA the symptoms are the same as stroke but last for a short amount of time- no longer than 24 hours.
A mini stroke is caused by a blockage cutting off blood supply to the brain. These effects are temporary as the blockage either dissolves or moves.
The blood supply then returns to normal and the symptoms can disappear.
Life after TIA
Driving: The UK DVLA does not allow you to drive for at least 1 month after a TIA.
If your doctor agrees that you are fit to drive after the month, then you can do so.
