Amy Stone (née Smith) is a general ophthalmologist subspecialising in medical retina. She qualified at the university of Manchester in 1994 and undertook ophthalmology training in Liverpool and Manchester with a fellowship in medical retina at the Oxford Eye Hospital.
She was a consultant ophthalmologist at the Royal Berkshire NHS Trust from 2010-2014 following which, for family reasons, she moved back to Manchester to take up a post at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.
She undertakes all aspects of medical retina work but has an interest in diabetic eye disease. She has been involved in most aspects of diabetic eye disease management from public health issues to principal investigator on international trials of new treatments.
She is involved in the undergraduate, postgraduate and optometry teaching programmes and is currently laser lead for the department and lead for the Manchester medical retina fellowship programme.
