Cardiology (NMGH)

This service is for all patients either referred in by their GP or seen as an emergency with heart problems.

What does the service provide?

The cardiology service provides a range of complex diagnostic and enhanced specialist interventional procedures for patients with coronary heart disease, heart rhythm problems, heart failure, structural heart disease, such as

Cardiac Pacing including complex cardiac implantable devices, like defibrillators,  Coronary angioplasty (PCI), Echo and stress echo, blackout investigation, a full range of cardiorespiratory investigations, heart failure service and rehabilitation services.

When is the service available?

The Cardiology service is available 7 days a week for all emergency referrals and Monday to Friday for non-emergency out-patient referrals from your GP.

Where is the service provided?

The Trust provides specialist planned cardiology services in a brand new facility at Fairfield General Hospital in Bury called the Silver Heart Unit.

The Silver Heart Unit at Fairfield will provide a range of complex diagnostic and enhanced specialist interventional procedures for patients with coronary heart disease and associated problems. Acutely ill patients will be admitted through wards at North Manchester, Fairfield and Oldham hospitals.

The unit is supported by a new Integrated Cardiology Unit at the hospital which comprises two cardiology wards: the Acute Coronary Care Unit (ward 1 for acutely ill and high dependency patients) and the Interventional Cardiac Unit (ward 2 for general inpatient cardiology patients and elective cardiology day case patients).

Fairfield General Hospital will provide specialist cardiology services to patients from Bury, Oldham, North Manchester, Rochdale borough and parts of East Lancashire.
