Biography

Dr McKenna has been a Consultant Physician and Rheumatologist in Trafford since 1989. He is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Manchester and is an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians. He has had a lengthy contribution to medical management and has undertaken a number of roles including operational medical director. Dr McKenna has a prolonged interest in clinical pharmacology of anti-rheumatic drug therapy. His current research is in biologic drug therapy for rheumatoid arthritis and the role of sleep pathology in fibromyalgia and other rheumatic diseases. He is a member of the NICE appeal committee and has also represented the British Society for Rheumatology on several NICE appraisals for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. He is currently the treasurer of the British Society of Rheumatology (BSR). Dr McKenna’s specialist clinics include connective tissue disease, sleep clinics, fibromyalgia, combined rheumatology/orthopaedic clinics, early synovitis, joint injection and annual review.
