In the current organisation there are two consultants in cardiology, respiratory medicine, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology, dermatology and clinical haematology. There are four consultants in care of the elderly and single-handed consultants in rheumatology and in palliative care. Clinics in nephrology and neurology are undertaken by visiting consultants.
Acute medicine
Acute medicine is an integral part of Trafford General Hospital. The team includes; Dr Ajith George, consultant in diabetes and acute medicine; Dr Ibrahim, a staff grade doctor; and a resident medical officer.
There are 11 consultant physicians on the rota and ward rounds are undertaken twice daily. All patients are seen by a consultant within 12 hours of admission. The acute service is supported by state of the art CT Scanner, MRI and ultrasound scanning service and an on-call endoscopy service.
The on-call team includes a consultant physician medical registrar (ST3 or higher) a resident medical officer (F2 or ST1/2) and an F1 doctor. The medical team is supported by a social worker, and a full time physiotherapy and occupational therapy team.
The acute medical unit is based on the medical assessment unit, a 38 bedded ward with facilities for cardiac monitoring. There is a team of highly qualified and experienced/skilled nurses.

- Seeing medical patients referred by general practitioner or accident and emergency department
- Urgent investigations
- An acute medical clinic runs on MAU on Thursday afternoons
