This department provides a full oral radiology service to patients undergoing treatment at the Dental Hospital. Images are taken and processed on the day of the appointment and are returned to clinic with the patient. The departmental staff also instruct and supervise a large number of undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The students continue to receive training and support from the department during the duration of their courses. The X-ray department is part of the Clinical Radiology Division of the Trust and is electronically linked to the other sites by a Radiology Information System.

Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology

The radiology department provides the diagnostic imaging service for all the clinical departments within the hospital. The department cannot operate an appointment system but sees each patient in turn. A small number of X-ray examinations have to be done on scanning equipment which is situated in the Radiology department at the Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI). The department will arrange appointments for these.

There is no NHS-commissioned service for Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology. Dentists should not make NHS-referrals for patients for radiography, or for radiology opinions.
