The vascular laboratory is unique in Greater Manchester in being an NHS service, located in the Radiology department at Manchester Royal Infirmary.

The Vascular Laboratory is a department which performs non-invasive investigations to assess blood flow in the legs, arms, abdomen and neck. Almost all of the tests we do here involve the use of ultrasound to assess or image the blood vessels in the area of the body related to the symptoms our patients have experienced. All assessments are performed by Clinical Vascular Scientists/ Screening Practitioners.

We perform assessments on patients of all ages and backgrounds, from within the hospital and the local community. Patients are referred to us by consultants from all specialties of medicine, and sometimes by GPs from surrounding practices. We have particularly close links with the hospital’s Vascular Surgery, Radiology, Renal, Haematology, and Accident and Emergency departments.
